26 Oct Treadstone Intercooler installed, converted to Blow-Thru MAF and Kenne Bell BAP
After installing the CXRacing Intercooler and setting up my car as a draw-thru system, I brought the car into Wicked Motorsports to have Kevin Hand take a look at it. We determined that the car was tailing lean and found that the CXRacing Intercooler was loosing 4 – 6 PSI after logging it pre and after. As I said, the car was set up as a draw-thru system which means the location of the MAF (Mass Airflow Meter) was just after the K&N Filter . That means the air was being measured right after the filter rather than right before the throttle body. I didn’t like the fact that the air traveled through the piping, in the intercooler, through more piping, then into the engine. The readings cannot be 100% accurate that way, so I decided to change it. We relocated the MAF to right before the throttle body which means we converted the
from a Bypass Valve (which recirculates the air) to a Blow Off Valve (which blows the excess air into the atmosphere). My fuel pump was also struggling a bit up top so I picked up a .
*UPDATE* Here we are 5 years later and the car is still running great! A year or so after this post my MAC long tube headers bit the dust, so I picked up some American Racing Long Tube Headers and Offroad X-Pipe and gained even more HP. The final #’s are below.

Off with the old

Vortech Maxflow Blow Off Valve

Let the modifying begin

New MAF installed and being wired

Custom made 4″ ‘Powerpipe’

Fits perfectly

Kenne Belle Boost A Pump (BAP) Installed and wired

Intake pipe drying. Put a coat of POR-15 on there

Oil Catch Can Installed

New MAF harness is complete

Ready to install new Treadstone Intercooler

MAF Installed

Treadstone Intercooler being set in place

Another shot of the IC

Intake pipe dried and installed

Intercooler mounted and installed

Almost there

Oil Catch Can 100% complete

Everything in place and installed

Job done, time to dyno!
*NOTE* This video is before installing the American Racing Long Tube Headers
Dyno Sheet

Dyno #’s
SAE: 454 RWHP / 413 RWTQ
STD: 473 RWHP / 431 RWTQ
Dyno Sheet Before American Racing Long Tube Headers & Offroad X-Pipe

#’s before headers / x-pipe – 444 RWHP / 413 RWTQ. First run on the dyno was 408 RWHP, this was with the Treadstone intercooler. The next run, after the new intercooler and customizations (but before Headers), the #’s were 444 rwhp. So I picked up 36 RWHP when ditching the CX-Racing Intercooler.

Just wanted to let you know that your setup is awesome and exactly what I have been looking at adding to my 01 GT. I have all of the performance bolt ons for my model and want to know if adding a blower to my engine with 95k+ miles hurt it or not? Can it handle the extra boost? Thanks
Mike

Thanks for the compliments, I appreciate it. If your motor has all the supporting mods and is in good condition then I would highly recommend adding a supercharger. A friend of mine added one to their car with over 100K miles with no problems. It’s really all about the tune, as long as you have a safe tune, your motor should be okay.
Good luck! Let me know what you decide to do.

I have a vortech v2-sq on right now, and I’m looking to intercool it. It looks like you take the bumper support off to fit the IC on..does it go back on or did you have to cut it to fit? I was looking at the cxracing setup, but after hearing about the pressure loss from you, I’m looking for a used procharger 3-core or maybe a treadstone cooler.

Thanks for checking out my site and set up. We did not have to notch the bumper at all (for either the CXRacing or Treadstone Intercooler). The IC sits right behind the bumper support. Make sure to post up some pictures of your set up here when you are done!

I am trying to do the same now but with a Novi 2K. Where exactly does you MAF go. I am running a Procharger race BOV ( Big Red) and I have to go blow through with my MAF. Also, Where did you get the tubing? IS it Custom Fabbed? Thanks..Love the setup.. nice job

My old CX Racing I/C also robbed 4-6psi of boost. I am looking into vertical core designs of the Treadstone units now that will handle 24psi of boost, with very little pressure loss.
Mike, how much pressure did you get back when going to the horizontal core Treadstone unit?

Hey Cory. Thanks for posting up your results. I also lost between 4-6 PSI and picked it right back up with the Treadstone. Everything that I lost was picked up with the new Intercooler.
I actually just installed some American Racing Headers long tubes and o/r x-pipe and picked up 27 more HP. I’ll post up about it when I get my graph

I see that your still actually using horizontal core. Treadstone I would need to use one of their vertical core designs with this much boost pressure/airflow.

Thanks Mike, Did you piecetogether the powerpipe youre runnning? or did it start off as an anderson powerpipe thats is now modified?
are you using the vortech fender bracket to hold the filter and elbow in place? Does the front bumper support get in the way of the intercooler? was the treadstone intercooler the same dimensions as the cx racing one? were the couplers and clamps that were included with the cxracing kit sufficient for your setup? thanks for the help

Hi, I was wondering, where did you get a hold of the new MAF harness and the MAF itself? Thanks

Posted at 17:33h, 5 March 201699 Cobra BOV Conversion
Hello, I’m buying a used Vortech V2 intercooled kit for my 99 Cobra and thinking of going with the BOV set up. How loud is your set up because I was thinking of Tial Q BOV but sounds pretty obnoxious?. Can you recommend an affordable installer?. Thank you.

Posted at 22:06h, 26 May 2016Re: BOV
Hi. During regular driving it’s not obnoxiously loud by any means. I was worried about this too but was very happy with the results. You can hear it if you know what you’re listening for. If you stomp on it on the other hand…It’s loud!

What model Treadstone did you use? Looking to do the same thing. Nice build!
